The marble of Peccia

The Valle Maggia is one of the most beautiful, largest, varied and most visited valleys of the Ticino. It is regarded as an important holiday area as well as a nature reserve. Visitors and also the local inhabitants find the region "wildly romantic". Surrounded by majestic, awe inspiring and valley dividing granite and gneiss formations which have towered up during the alpine unfolding in ages past, we find, almost like a miracle or a geological surprise, the occurrence of marble in Peccia.

Accomodation

If you choose to rent a room in one of the two houses belonging to the Scuola di Scultura you will live in community with other course participants in one of the old local Ticino houses. The original furnishings have charm and the ambience next to the open fire is very cosy!

In each of the two school houses there is a kitchen that can be used by course participants who, on arrival, will also be given a list with details of restaurants in the local surroundings. On some evenings our cook will prepare a dinner in the Ex-Osteria Mignami.

We offer course participants the opportunity to cook simple meals outdoors, on the work site of the Scuola di Scultura. There is a "marble barbecue" and a large covered marble table.

Since 1997 the Scuola di Scultura has at its disposal a new worksite, an offer that goes beyond the bounds of the school's courses.
The new site offers those people who wish to develop their artistic talent over a longer period the ideal opportunity to live and work on site.
