Sculpting for advanced students II - Figurative:Abstract:Direct

Figurative:Abstract:Direct

The sculpture courses for advanced students have a topic at the centre of the creative discussion. Sculptural work is about creating images, by carving them in stone.

During the two weeks of intensive stone carving, it is all about focussing on the process, from the first idea to the finished sculpture. Perhaps the participants come prepared with an idea that they wish to implement, or we begin by exploring various possible scenarios of how a sculpture can be created, from the first idea to the completed work. Using sketches and small clay models, we focus intensively on the representation of the figure, and experiment with different shape variants. Consideration is also given to how the work can be defined in terms of content and in what context it should be shown. The focus of this course is the decision on a form (abstract, figurative, hybrid), the courageous approach to the stone, and the technically clean implementation. In addition, we offer short crash courses on questions of stone processing, art discourse, contemporary stone sculpture and much more.

Essential requirement for the course: Good basic stone sculpting skills.

We will work with Cristallina marble, but please feel free to choose another material if you wish.

Course languages: German/English
